Are parents
still important for the next gen kids
Often I have asked this question to myself. I have always
been a much disciplined child and have loved my parents to the moon and back.
As
a child I had always listened to whatever they said, be it in school with the
teachers, or be it at home with the parents. An obeying child who knew very
well how to respect the elders. And the legacy continued when I got married.
The
set of parents changed but not my obeying nature. My disciplined life n
obeyance loyalties shifted to my in-laws. Our lives always revolved around our
family and close friends with some important relatives being a part of the
family.
But that was us. The 90”kids….. What about our kids. This generation.
Are we that important in their lives? The
life which is ruled by gadgets, friends and relationships are just to keep them
busy and fill their voids. Where serious relations are a thing of past. Where commitment
is towards their phone which is their lifeline. Where do we feature in all this?
Many people especially our senior’s feel that we are there
ATM cards and nothing else. A house for them is like a hotel. They get everything…..
Food, clothes, shelter, washed laundry etc. And are being paid to stay in that
HOME HOTEL.
But I beg to differ. Yes, indeed the kids are very different
these days. Very selfish also. But parents were and are always important. They may
remember parents for financial needs, they may remember parents when they need
completion of their daily chores, they may remember them when work (be it
personal or official) needs to be completed.
No one has and no one can substitute them as far as
emotional needs are concerned. That can only be satisfied with their comforting
touch. The touch, the words that always symbolize that we are always there. In
good times but more importantly in bad times.
So,
PREVIOUS GEN THIS GEN FUTURE GEN
PARENTS WERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE IMPORTANT AND CLOSEST TO
THEIR KIDS.
